What is Drone LiDAR?
LiDAR stands for Light Detection and Ranging, which is a remote sensing method using light in the form of pulsing lasers to measure different distances from the sensor to the Earth with precision accuracy. Over a million pulses per second are recorded, which generate precise 3D models of the Earth's surface and anything above. When a drone flies over a specific area, the LiDAR sensor sends out laser pulses that measure the amount of time it takes for the signal to return. A point cloud file is then created and used by professionals such as researchers, surveyors, and engineers that are then delivered to clients for many different uses.
The many uses for Drone LiDAR
LiDAR is used by professionals with varying backgrounds for many different applications

Applications for Drone LiDAR
Dense Vegetation
LiDAR mounted drones can identify ground surfaces through thick vegetation through small gaps in the canopy or brush. Traditional methods can take weeks where drone LiDAR can collect data over large areas in a short amount of time. This type of data acquisition is useful for land surveying, forestry management, and realty capture.
Coastal Restoration & Analysis
Assess volumetric loss of sediment from dunes to eroding coastlines and compare changes over time. Use drone LiDAR to compare manmade and natural erosion processes by collecting up-to-date data on a regular schedule or as needed.
Elevation Modeling
Our LiDAR data can be used by professionals to produce highly accurate 3D models for specific project needs. For example, locate low points on agricultural land for future irrigation planning. Our data is useful for many industries such as development planning, civil engineering, construction, and land investment.
Utility Corridor Mapping & Right of Way Encroachment
Utility companies can use drone LiDAR's highly detailed classified point clouds in ROW encroachment monitoring by highlighting vegetation hanging over transmission lines. Managers can quickly identify potential risks and direct crews as needed. LiDAR data is also useful for future construction and planning of new utility corridors.
City Planning
Precise data is used for city planning and documentation. Accurately digitize buildings, roads, street trees and their diameter/species, power poles and transmission lines. A high-resolution RBG camera paired with a LiDAR sensor gives city managers and GIS specialists excellent data to build from.
Volumetrics
Drone LiDAR can collect data that is used to measure volumes in various areas. This is useful for landfills, mining, aggregates, dredging, industrial sites, or anywhere else that volume measurements are needed.
